The Problem

Your doctor said yoga.
Nobody told you how.

Most yoga classes are designed for a pain-free, fully mobile body. When you walk in with a diagnosis — stenosis, a disc herniation, spondylolisthesis, post-surgical restrictions — you're navigating without a map. Your teacher is managing twenty other bodies at once, and their training likely didn't cover yours.

That responsibility falls to you. The problem is that no one has given you the information you need to carry it.

"My doctor cleared me for yoga. But I don't know what's safe. I don't know what to avoid. And I really don't want to make things worse."

This workshop is the direct answer to that. Two and a half hours, your spinal bias identified, every major movement category decoded, and a protocol you can use in any class — with any teacher — for the rest of your practice.

The Clinical Framework

Your Spinal Bias

This program is built on the same diagnostic language your spine specialist uses to assess movement tolerance — translated into terms you can apply on a yoga mat. The first thing we do in the workshop is identify where you land.

Bias 01
Flexion-Bias
Forward movement brings relief. Extension — arching backward, standing for long periods — must be avoided.
Stenosis · Facet arthropathy · Spondylolisthesis · Posterior disc bulges
Bias 02
Extension-Bias
Gentle backward movement brings relief. Flexion — forward bending, sitting, rounding — must be avoided.
Anterior disc herniation · Discogenic pain · Post-discectomy
Bias 03
Neutral-Bias
Both directions are avoided. The focus is mid-range stability — moving through hips, shoulders, and other joints rather than the spine.
Instability · Severe osteoporosis · Complex post-surgical cases
Bias 04
Unrestricted-Bias
All planes are available — but excessive flexibility without muscular control is the primary risk. Engagement leads everything.
Hypermobility · Ligamentous laxity · EDS

Workshop Structure

What Happens Inside

The workshop follows a deliberate arc — from clinical framework through practical application. Here is exactly what to expect.

Section Time What Happens
Welcome & Framing 0:00–0:10 Nicole introduces the program, establishes the SOAR clinical foundation, and sets expectations. This is medically-informed education — not a general wellness class.
Know Your Spine Dr. Jeff Saal joins 0:10–0:30 Nicole introduces the four spinal biases. Dr. Jeff Saal, co-founder of SOAR Spine & Orthopedics, joins for 8–10 minutes to validate the framework clinically and connect it to your diagnosis. You complete a self-assessment and identify your working bias before the section ends.
How Studio Classes Are Built 0:30–0:45 Nicole decodes the standard class arc — the sequence every teacher is trained to follow — and maps each phase to its bias-specific risk profile. You'll know exactly where your personal danger zones sit. Short break follows.
The Movement Library 0:50–1:35 The practical core. Forward folds, backbends, twists, inversions, and transitions — on camera, with demonstrations. For each: what the teacher is asking of your spine, which biases need to pay attention, and explicit substitutions by bias.
Walk In Ready 1:35–1:50 Pre-class protocol, teacher conversation script, and a three-question real-time check for use during any class. You'll walk through the script out loud before the session ends.
Q&A 1:50–2:10 Open questions about movement, bias, and class navigation. Clinical questions outside Nicole's scope are redirected to your SOAR provider. Remaining questions carry forward to your first 1:1 call.
Close 2:10–2:20 Nicole consolidates what you now know, and introduces SAAL Yoga Fundamentals for those who want a full practice built around their bias. SOAR discount code and 1:1 booking link delivered.

About Nicole

The Clinical Bridge

Nicole Saal Miller is the founder of SAAL Yoga, a medically-informed yoga practice. She is embedded at SOAR Spine & Orthopedics, working alongside spine specialists to bridge the gap between clinical care and safe movement.

Her methodology is built on the clinical framework developed by her father and uncle — Drs. Jeff and Joel Saal — spine specialists with decades of combined experience. SAAL Yoga Fundamentals, her flagship 28-day program, was developed in direct collaboration with them.

This workshop exists because she kept hearing the same question from patients leaving SOAR — and nobody else was answering it specifically enough.

Questions

Before You Register

Is this a yoga class?

No. This is a navigation and education program to understand your spine. There is no physical requirement to attend. Nicole demonstrates movements on camera — you watch and learn.

I don't have a formal diagnosis. Can I still attend?

Yes. The bias self-assessment walks through pain pattern questions as well as diagnosis-based identification. If you have back pain and don't know why, we'll work through where you most likely land based on what makes your pain better and worse. You'll leave with a working bias regardless of whether you have a formal diagnosis.

What if I can't attend the live session?

Register anyway. The recording is available for 90 days following the session. Your three private 1:1 calls are bookable within the same 90-day window, regardless of whether you attended live. The PDF toolkit is delivered before the workshop.

How is this different from SAAL Yoga Fundamentals?

Fundamentals is a 28-day yoga practice built specifically for your spine. This workshop is knowledge and navigation — it teaches you how to move through the world of yoga safely. Think of this as what you need before, or instead of, committing to a full program. Many people who complete this workshop go on to enroll in Fundamentals. Many don't — and that's fine. This stands on its own.

What are the 1:1 calls for?

They're for application. You take a class, something comes up — a cue you weren't sure about, a pose that didn't feel right, a teacher who didn't offer modifications. You bring that specific scenario to your call and Nicole works through it with you for your specific spine. Each call is followed by a written takeaway within 24 hours. Book them whenever you're ready within 90 days.

Is this appropriate for someone who has never done yoga?

Yes. The workshop is about understanding yoga class structure and how to navigate it safely — not about yoga skill level. Whether you've never taken a class or have practiced for years, the framework is the same. Someone with no yoga experience will leave knowing exactly what to expect and how to approach their first class.

Ready

Walk into any class.
Know your spine.

The information exists. It just hasn't been handed to you yet — at least not in the same room as your spine care. This is what that looks like.
